January 28

China and Myanmar signed the Agreement on the Issue of Boundary between the Government of the People’s Republic of China and the Government of the Union of Myanmar and the Treaty of Friendship and Mutual Non-Aggression between the People’s Republic of  China and the Union of  Myanmar. On October 1, the two countries signed the Boundary Treaty between the People’s Republic of China and the Union of Myanmar. This was the first time China had resolved boundary disputes with neighboring countries, and it was considered as a model for the settlement of such problems in the future. After that, China signed boundary agreements or treaties one after another with Nepal, Mongolia, Pakistan, Afghanistan and other countries.


March 22

The CPC Central Committee approved and distributed the Report on the Movement of Technological Innovation and Technological Revolution on the Industrial Front from the Anshan Municipal Party Committee. Mao Zedong drafted an instruction on behalf of the Central Committee, calling the management system of  “Two Participations, One Reform, Three-in-One Combinations” the “Constitution of the Anshan Iron and Steel Company” and demanding dissemination on the industrial front.


May 25

  Wang Fuzhou, Gongbu (Tibetan) and Qu Yinhua from the Chinese Mountaineering Team reached the summit of Mount Qomolangma via the north face. It was the first time human beings managed to overcome the challenge of the north face of Mount Qomolangma.


November 3

The CPC Central Committee issued the Urgent Directive Letter on Current Policies for Rural People’s Communes, calling for the utmost efforts to correct the “communist wind” in rural people’s communes. 


November 17

The 105th Plenary Session of the State Council promulgated the Provisional Regulations on the Protection and Control of Cultural Relics, and approved the First Batch of Major Historical and Cultural Sites Protected at the National Level.
