February 26-28

　　The second plenary session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) is held in Beijing from February 26 to 28, 2023. The session is attended by 203 members and 170 alternate members of the 20th CPC Central Committee. Deputy secretaries of the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and leading officials of related departments attend as non-voting participants. Xi Jinping, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, delivers an important speech at the session which is presided over by the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee. At the session, the Central Committee hears and discusses the report on the work of the Political Bureau, presented by Xi Jinping on behalf of the Political Bureau. The session reviews and adopts a list of proposed candidates for the leading positions of state institutions to be recommended to the first session of the 14th National People's Congress (NPC), and a list of proposed candidates for the leadership of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee to be recommended to the first session of the 14th CPPCC National Committee. The Political Bureau has extensively solicited opinions within and outside the Party for putting forward the lists, which have also been discussed time and again. The plenary session decides to recommend the two lists respectively to the presidium of the first session of the 14th NPC and the presidium of the first session of the 14th CPPCC National Committee. The session deliberates and adopts a plan on reform of Party and state institutions. The plan is put forward on the basis of extensively soliciting opinions. Xi Jinping delivers explanatory remarks on the draft plan on reform of Party and state institutions. It is agreed at the session that part of the reform plan will be submitted to the first session of the 14th NPC for deliberation in accordance with due legal procedures.

　　The CPC in Dialogue with World Political Parties High-Level Meeting is held in Beijing. Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and Chinese president, attends the meeting via video link and delivers a keynote address proposing the Global Civilization Initiative.

April 3

　　Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, also Chinese president and chairman of the Central Military Commission, delivers an important speech at a working conference on the education campaign on the study and implementation of the Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era in Beijing, April 3, 2023.The Communist Party of China (CPC) has decided to launch an education campaign among its 96 million members on the study and implementation of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era.

October 18

　　The Third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation is held in Beijing. Chinese President Xi Jinping attends the opening ceremony of the forum and delivers a keynote speech titled “Building an Open, Inclusive and Interconnected World For Common Development” at the Great Hall of the People. A chair's statement of the third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation is issued after the forum.

December 26

　　The Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) holds a symposium at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing to commemorate the 130th anniversary of Comrade Mao Zedong's birth. Xi Jinping, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, Chinese president, and chairman of the Central Military Commission, delivers an important speech. Li Qiang, Zhao Leji, Wang Huning, Ding Xuexiang, and Li Xi, all members of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, and Chinese Vice President Han Zheng, attend the event. Cai Qi, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, presides over the symposium.
