Statistical Communiqué on the CPC

As of December 31, 2021, the total number of CPC members was 96,712,000, a net increase of 3,344,000 or 3.7% over the end of 2020.

There were 4,936,000 primary-level organizations of the CPC, a net increase of 117,000 or 2.4% over the end of 2020. Among them, there were 278,000 primary-level party committees, 316,000 general branches and 4,342,000 branches.

 

I. About Party Members

The gender, ethnicity and educational background of party members. There were 28,431,000 female party members, accounting for 29.4% of the total number of party members. There were 7,285,000 ethnic party members, accounting for 7.5%. There were 51,461,000 party members with junior college degrees and above, accounting for 53.2%.

The age group of party members. There were 12,624,000 members aged 30 and below; 11,535,000 members aged 31 to 35; 9,780,000 members aged 36 to 40; 8,775,000 members aged 41 to 45, 9,364,000 members aged 46 to 50; 8,776,000 members aged 51 to 55; 8,648,000 members aged 56 to 60; and 27,210,000 members aged 61 and above.

The timing of party membership. There were 119,000 people who joined the CPC before the founding of the People's Republic of China, 14,175,000 from the founding to the Third Plenary Session of the 11th CPC Central Committee, 60,825,000 from the Third Plenary Session of the 11th CPC Central Committee to the 18th CPC Central Committee, and 21,594,000 since the 18th CPC Central Committee.

The job of party members. There were 6,594,000 workers (skilled workers), 25,923,000 farmers, herdsmen and fishermen, 15,487,000 professionals and technicians in enterprises, institutions and social organizations, 10,948,000 managers in enterprises, institutions and social organizations, 7,805,000 staff in party and government organs, 3,052,000 students, 7,482,000 people in other occupations, and 19,421,000 retirees.

II. About Party Membership Candidates

There were 4,383,000 party membership candidates in 2021, an increase of 1,956,000 over the previous year.

The gender, ethnicity and educational background of party membership candidates. There were 2,042,000 female party membership candidates, accounting for 46.6%. There were 400,000 ethnic party membership candidates, accounting for 9.1%. There were 3,540,000 party membership candidates aged 35 and below, accounting for 80.8%. There were 2,115,000 party membership candidates with junior college degrees and above, accounting for 48.3%.

The job of party membership candidates. There were 280,000 workers (skilled workers), 687,000 farmers, herdsmen and fishermen, 655,000 professionals and technicians in enterprises, institutions and social organizations, 468,000 managers in enterprises, institutions and social organizations, 232,000 staff in the party and government organs, 1,765,000 students, and 294,000 people in other occupations. There were 2,311,000 party membership candidates at the front line of production and work.

III. About the Internal Honor of the Party

On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the CPC, the Central Committee awarded 29 members, such as Ma Maojie, the "July 1 Medal (CPC Founding Day Medal)", and recognized 400 national outstanding party members, 300 national outstanding party workers and 499 national advanced primary-level party organizations. It awarded 7,293,000 eligible senior party members with the "Glorious 50 Years of Party Membership" Commemorative Medal. In 2021, party organizations at all levels nationwide honored 1,531,000 outstanding party members, 555,000 outstanding party workers and 444,000 advanced primary-level party organizations.

IV. About Party Membership Applicants

By the end of 2021, there were 20,625,000 party membership applicants and 10,091,000 application activists nationwide.

V. About Party Organization

The local committees of the party. There were 3,198 local committees of the party at all levels nationwide. Among them, there were 31 provincial (district and municipal) committees, 397 municipal (prefecture) committees, and 2,770 county-level (city-, district- and banner-) committees.

The party organizations in urban sub-districts, townships, communities (neighborhood committees), and administrative villages. Party organizations were established in 9,034 urban sub-districts, 29,649 townships, 114,065 communities (neighborhood committees) and 491,129 administrative villages nationwide, with a coverage rate of over 99.9%.

The party organizations in organs, institutions, enterprises and social organizations. There were 745,000 primary-level party organizations nationwide, 949,000 in institutions, 1,532,000 in enterprises, and 171,000 in social organizations. They were built as much as possible.
