The Belt and Road Initiative——一带一路倡议

With the goal of further opening up to the rest of the worid and promoting common prosperity, during his visits to Central Asia and Southeast Asia in September and Oetobet 2013, President Xi Jinping made a series of proposals, including such Concepts as the Silk Road Economic Belt and 21st-century Maritime Silk Road, which were watmly welcomed. Later these two concepts became Known collectively as the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).

In the past, China's land and maritime silk roads served as great channels for economic and cultural exchanges between China and other areas including Central Asia, Southeast Asia, South Asia, West Asia, East Africa, and Europe.

The Belt and Road Initiative is a new project that extends all the way through Eurasia, connecting the Asia- Pacific Economic Circle in the east with the European Economic Circle in the west, and represents the legacy and the renaissance of the ancient Silk Road. It conforms to the requirements of the times and the widespread desire fot accelerated development, and blends deep historical toots and cultural foundations with China's fast-developing economy.

The initiative will promote development, cooperation, and opening up. Its essence lies in promoting infrastructure and interconnectivity, strengthening economic policy coordination, dovetailing strategies, and facilitating coordinated and interconnected development to achieve common prosperity. Based on the  principles of joint consultation, joint building, and Sharing of benefit, the BRI reptesents peace, prospetity, openness, innovation, and civilization.

As a major strategy of the current Chinese leadership, the Belt and Road Initiative is an important measure to support a new round of wider opening to the outside world, which has been widely welcomed in the inter national community. The BRI Beijing Summit in May 2017 set the direction, principles and measures for BRI cooperation, signaling that the initiative had entered the stage of implementation.

The BRI is a platform of cooperation underpinned by openness and inclusiveness. The BRI is becoming a reality through combined efforts from all countries involved. Experience to date demonstrates that the BRI has become a major cooperation platform for world peace and common development.
