A Community of Shared Future for Mankind——人类命运共同体
The world is a global village, where different countries depend on each other and share weal and woe. In building a global community of shared future, we aim to create lasting peace, universal security, common prosperity, openness and inclusiveness, a clean environment, and a beautiful world. This proposal, made by the CPC Central Committee with Xi Jinping as its core, was based on careful consideration of global trends and the domestic and international situation, in the hope of contributing Chinese wisdom and solutions to the problems of humanity.
During his Russia visit in March 2013, President Xi Jinping proposed in a speech the concept of “a global community of shared future”. Later, on many occasions in China or abroad, he expanded on the profound meaning of the concept, and called on joint efforts toward this goal.
In his speech "Work Together to Build a Global Community of Shared Future” at the UN Office at Geneva, President Xi Jinping emphasized the need for dialogue and consultation to build a world of lasting peace. He proposed to build a world of common security through joint efforts, a world of common prosperity through win-win cooperation, an open and inclusive world through exchanges and mutual learning, and a clean and beautiful world by pursuing green and low-carbon development.
In February 2017 the concept was included in a resolution of the UN Security Council.
As a large country with 1.3 billion people, China contributes to a community of shared future with steady growth in its own right. Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era points out that to boost China's large country diplomacy, the country should promote a new model of international relations and a global community of shared future, the latter of which was incorporated into the basic principles of upholding and developing Chinese socialism in the new era at the 19th CPC National Congress.
The 19th CPC National Congress made the following statements: We call on the people of all countries to work together to build a community with a shared future for mankind. We should respect each other, discuss issues as equals, resolutely reject the Cold War mentality and power politics, and take a new approach to developing state-to-state relations with communication, not confrontation, and with partnership, not alliance. We should commit to settling disputes through dialogue and resolving differences through discussion, coordinate responses to traditional and non-tradition- al threats, and oppose terrorism in all its forms. We should stick together through thick and thin, promote trade and investment liberalization and facilitation, and make economic globalization more open, inclusive, and balanced so that its benefits are shared by all. We should respect the diversity of civilizations. In handling relations among civilizations, let us replace estrangement with exchange, clashes with mutual learning, and superiority with coexistence. We should be good friends to the environment, cooper- ate to tackle climate change, and protect our planet for the sake of human survival.
