Industrial Production Rises Slightly while Maintaining Stability in August 2018

  Jiang Yuan, a senior statistician from the Department of Industrial Statistics  of the National Bureau of Statistic, interpreted the data of industrial production in August.

  In August, the industrial added value for the enterprises above a certain scale achieved an actual year-on-year growth of 6.1% , with a growth rate 0.1% higher than that in July, and that of high-tech industries and strategic emerging industries accelerated significantly. The industrial production in August shows the following main features.

  I. The growth of high-tech industries and strategic emerging industries continues to accelerate. In August, the added value of high-tech industries achieved a year-on-year growth of 13.8%, 2.5% faster than that in July and 7.7% higher than that of industries above a certain scale, accounting for 13.6% of that of industries above a certain scale, with a year-on-year growth of 1.2%. Among them, the growth rates of electronics and communication equipment manufacturing, computer and office equipment manufacturing industries were 3.6% and 1.2% faster than those in July, respectively. The strategic emerging industries above a certain scale achieved a year-on-year growth of 10.1%, 2.0% faster than that in July and 4.0% higher than that of industries above a certain scale, accounting for 18.7% of that of industries above a certain scale, with a year-on-year growth of 0.8%. 

  II. Industry growth rises steadily. In August, the added value of 36 industries among 41 industry categories achieved a year-on-year growth of 87.8%, 2.4% higher than that in July. Among them, electronics, chemical fibers, electricity, gas production and supply, assisted mining and other industries maintained a double-digit growth. From a product perspective, the output of 336 out of 596 major industrial products in statistics achieved a year-on-year growth of 56.4%. Among them, the output of SPC exchanges, service robots, monocrystalline silicon, optical fibers, smart TVs and other products increased rapidly.
