Adapting Marxism to the Chinese Context and

the Centennial Glory of the CPC’s Thought

Gu Hailiang

The CPC is the leader, practitioner, and theoretical innovator that integrates the fundamental tenets of Marxism with China’s reality. The centennial theoretical course of the CPC is based on the adaption of Marxism to the Chinese context as the main thrust. The theoretical essence of adapting Marxism to the Chinese context is marked by the theoretical innovation and creation in the centennial course of the CPC. The historical changes in Chinese society over the past century coincide with the stages and characteristics of the adaption of Marxism to the Chinese context, and reflect the formation, enrichment, and continuous development of the centennial thought of the CPC. It is also in the historical changes in Chinese society that the CPC takes the realization of the two major historical tasks of Chinese society as the theme, China’s practical problems as the center, and the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation as the banner. Over the past century, the CPC has not only applied the fundamental tenets of Marxism to China’s reality, but has also formed new ideas in this process, and elevated them to a new connotation of Marxist theory, to realize the CPC’s theoretical innovation and creation of Marxism. “Scientificity and truth,” “people’s nature and practicality,” and “openness and contemporary nature” have become the prominent characteristics of the brilliant thought of the CPC in the process of adapting Marxism to the Chinese context.

The CPC’s Two Resolutions on History and

Chinese Revolution and Construction

Zhang Shengen & Tang Li

This paper revisits the formation of the CPC’s Resolution on Historical Issues and Resolution of the Party since the Founding of the People’s Republic of China at the important historical point of the centenary of the founding of the Party. It reviews the key aspects of the drafting of the two resolutions and elaborates on their rich content that revolve around the resolution of major issues. It argues that the two resolutions were made by the Chinese Communists at a great turning point in their historical mission of national independence, people’s liberation, national prosperity and people’s happiness. The paper concludes that the documents were well-prepared and properly formulated in a way that not only clarified ideas but also united the people, and not only solved historical problems but also provided inspiration for solving real problems. The formation of the two resolutions has played a crucial role in the development of the Chinese revolution and construction, and has continued to drive the Chinese construction from victory to new and greater victory.

Li Dazhao’s Thinking and Practice of Founding the Party

Hou Qie’an

In the study of the history of the CPC, the research on the ideas for founding the Party of the main founders during the founding period of the Party has always been weak. This paper adheres to the epistemological principle of consistency of logic and history, focuses on the Party cofounder, Li Dazhao’s theoretical thinking and practical process of founding the Party, and analyzes how to carry on his precious theoretical legacy. This paper emphasizes that the early Chinese Communists, such as Li Dazhao, did not create the Party by completely following the Soviet Russian model. Starting from the reality of northern China and in light of the changes in the political struggle, they adjusted their thinking, explored the plan of national revolution in line with their own characteristics, and worked hard to found the Party independently.

Common Prosperity as Planned and Pursued by the CPC

Yang Mingwei

Common prosperity is a basic issue of Marxist theory and a basic vision of Marx and Engels for the future society. As a true Marxist party, the CPC has always taken the realization of common prosperity for all people as its mission. After the founding of the People’s Republic of China, the Chinese Communists, such as Mao Zedong, clearly proposed to take the road of building a strong socialist country and ensuring that the people “achieve common prosperity”. In the process of creating the path of socialism with Chinese characteristics, the Chinese Communists, such as Deng Xiaoping, categorically stated that the essence and greatest superiority of socialism is common prosperity. When leading efforts to build socialism with Chinese characteristics in various stages, Chinese Party and state leaders always attached great importance to the issue of common prosperity. As socialism with Chinese characteristics has entered a new era, the Party Central Committee, with General Secretary Xi Jinping at its core, has given prominence to the issue of “doing solid work to promote common prosperity.”

The Sky and Sun in the Heart of Karl Marx:

In Commemoration of the Great Woman Jenny Marx for

Her Steadfast Commitment to the Cause of Human Progress

Wei Jianhua

Jenny Marx was a rare and outstanding woman in human history. In order to commemorate this pioneer fighter of the international communist movement, this article examines precious historical materials from Marxist classics and various documents, clarifies important historical facts, gets closer to Jenny’s eventful years of struggle, approaches her epic and magnificent life and rich inner world, and appreciates this revolutionary’s sincere commitment to the cause of human progress. The article summarizes Jenny’s pure and noble beliefs in life, her fervor for struggle, her unyielding spirit, and her simple and broad humanistic sentiments. It introduces her attitude of research and study, her outstanding talent of deliberate thinking and discernment, and her expertise in writing. It points out that although we live in different times and countries from Jenny’s, our common political beliefs, common theoretical guidelines, common goals and common values have removed the barriers and divisions between us and this pioneer. Today, inspired by Jenny’s spirit, we should be more energetic and vigorous in guarding the lofty faith in our hearts and realizing the true value of our lives.

Innovative Development of Socialist Political Economy

with Chinese Characteristics in the New Era

Zhang Zhanbin

In order to meet the contemporary requirements of the new normal and new development stage of China’s economy in the new era, the CPC Central Committee, with General Secretary Xi Jinping at the core, has profoundly analyzed and judged the profound changes and basic trends of economic development both in China and elsewhere. Both in theory and practice, this paper deeply answers these questions: How should China better adhere to and improve the Party’s centralized and unified leadership of economic work in the new era? How to better unleash and develop the socialist productive forces and improve the relations of production in China? How should the people be taken as the center in sharing the fruits of reform and development, and gradually achieving common prosperity? How should the relationship between the government and the market be better handled to release institutional dividends and market potential? How should the new development philosophy be better implemented to promote supply-side structural reform? How should China create a new pattern of development that features positive interplay between domestic circulation and international circulation to promote high-quality economic development? How should China take a greater part in major issues such as global economic governance and building a human community with a shared future? The CPC Central Committee has constructed the overall framework of socialist political economy with Chinese characteristics in the new era. It has clarified a series of major issues on how China can become strong in the new era. It has made great contributions to the development of Marxist political economy. It has endowed Marxist political economy with distinct Chinese style. The Central Committee has also opened a new realm of Marxist political economy in contemporary China and pointed out the direction of embarking on the new journey of building a modern socialist country in all respects.

Completing a Moderately Prosperous Society in All Respects:

The Key, Value and Prospect of Poverty Alleviation in China

Lei Ming & Zou Pei

This paper systematically summarizes the theory and practice of winning the battle against poverty as part of the goal of completing a moderately prosperous society in all respects in China. It also explains the characteristics of poverty governance in socialist China. Targeted poverty alleviation and poverty eradication have opened a new chapter in the history of poverty governance in China, and are the key to poverty eradication that enables the completion of a moderately prosperous society in all respects. This needs to be fully understood and accurately grasped at the three levels of “accuracy,” “precision,” and “sustainability.” Effective institutional arrangements are the key to winning the battle against poverty in China. These include strengthening the Party to create a solid organizational network for poverty alleviation; developing industries to make poverty alleviation sustainable; alleviating poverty by promoting eco-environmental protection to ensure both ecological conservation and economic development; ensuring that the impoverished populations develop independently to prevent poverty being passed down from generation to generation; promoting the cooperation between the eastern and western regions to ensure they complement each other and develop together; and ensuring that the rich help the poor and they work together for common prosperity and finally realize greater poverty alleviation. China’s experience in targeted poverty alleviation can be summarized in six aspects: people-centered governance, pragmatic work style, effective institutional arrangements, strong economic development (growth) spillover effect, stimulation of endogenous power, and formation of a great poverty alleviation pattern. Following the attainment of the goal of completing a moderately prosperous society in all respects, China’s main tasks in the new 14th Five-Year Plan period are to consolidate and expand the results of poverty eradication, explore new mechanisms, review new experiences, and create a new phase of poverty alleviation.
