Advancing eco-environmental protection is a fundamental strategy that concerns the enduring development of the Chinese nation.

Since the 18th CPC National Congress, the Party Central Committee, with General Secretary Xi Jinping at its core, has pursued eco-environmental protection with unparalleled enthusiasm and vigor. This encompasses comprehensive efforts in terms of way of thinking, legislation, institutional mechanisms, organization, and conduct, and includes strengthening eco-environmental protection across all sectors, regions, and processes. A series of fundamental, pioneering, and long-term initiatives have been launched, significantly enhancing the Party and the country’s commitment and proactivity in promoting green development. Major strides have been made toward building a Beautiful China, marking a historic, transformative, and comprehensive shift in China’s approach to eco-environmental protection.

China has actively engaged in global environmental and climate governance, becoming a significant participant, contributor, and leader in global eco-environmental protection, honoring its responsibilities as a major country.

Xi Jinping, drawing upon the traditional culture of the Chinese nation, and in line with the zeitgeist and public sentiment, has articulated a series of important statements on eco-environmental protection from the strategic perspective of upholding and developing socialism with Chinese characteristics and realizing the Chinese Dream of National Rejuvenation. He has profoundly addressed major theoretical and practical issues such as why we should advance eco-environmental protection, what kind of eco-environmental protection we should advance, and how to go about it, thereby formulating Xi Jinping’s thinking on eco-environmental protection. This provides both a guiding principle and a fundamental tenet for building a beautiful China and achieving harmony between humans and nature.

Xi Jinping’s thinking on eco-environmental protection is a significant component of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era. It holds immense guiding significance for upholding the vision that “lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets,” following a path of sound development that ensures growth, better lives, and a good environment, realizing modernization characterized by harmony between humans and nature, achieving new victories in the building of a modern socialist country in all respects, and realizing the the Chinese Dream of National Rejuvenation.

To assist officials and public in deeply studying and implementing Xi Jinping’s thinking on Thought on eco-environmental protection, we have compiled Xi Jinping’s related statements into this current volume.

This volume includes 79 manuscripts by Xi Jinping on fostering harmony between humans and nature since the 18th CPC National Congress, some of which are being published here for the first time.
