    Food security is a matter of utmost national significance.

    Since the 18th National Congress of the Party, the Party Central Committee, with General Secretary Xi Jinping at its core, has placed high importance on national food security. It has consistently viewed resolving the issue of feeding a population of over a billion as a top priority in governance, accelerated the modernization of agriculture and rural areas, implemented the national food security strategy, upheld the food crop production strategy based on farmland management and technology application, and enforced the strictest possible farmland protection system. It has also promoted self-reliance and strengthening in seed industry technology and ensured the autonomy and controllability of seed sources, thereby continuously enhancing China’s comprehensive grain production capacity. As a result, China’s total grain output has comfortably been the highest in the world, effectively ensuring the food security of over 1.4 billion people.

    The series of significant statements delivered by Xi Jinping on national food security are far-sighted, rich in content, and profound in thought. They hold immense significance for comprehensively promoting rural revitalization, accelerating agricultural development, solidifying the foundation of food security in all respects, fully implementing the shared responsibility of the Party and government for food security, and ensuring that the Chinese always have control over their own food supply.

    To assist officials and the public in learning, understanding, and mastering Xi Jinping’s important statements, we have compiled this current volume.

    The content of this volume is drawn from over 80 important documents such as reports, speeches, lectures, conversations, congratulatory letters, instructions, and directives from Xi Jinping from December 15, 2012, to December 23, 2022. It is organized into eight topics, encompassing a total of 240 statements, some of which are being published here for the first time.
