Since the 18th National Congress of the CPC, the CPC Central Committee with General Secretary Xi Jinping at its core has upheld the principle of putting the people and their lives first. It has elevated the protection of public health to a strategic priority, followed a path of health development with Chinese characteristics, and formulated guidelines for health and medical work in the New Era. Comprehensive efforts have been made to advance the Healthy China initiative, deepen reform of the medical and healthcare system, build the world’s largest healthcare system, and improve a public health service network that covers both urban and rural areas. As a result, the overall health of the Chinese people has seen significant improvement.

General Secretary Xi Jinping has delivered a series of important discourses on building a Healthy China. These discourses are strategic in vision, rich in substance, and profound in insight. They provide essential guidance for advancing health development in China in the New Era and for laying a strong foundation of public health in the broader pursuit of building a great modern socialist country and realizing national rejuvenation through Chinese modernization.

In order to facilitate the study, comprehension, and application of General Secretary Xi Jinping's key ideas among Party members, officials, and the general public, this volume—Xi Jinping on Building a Healthy China—has been compiled.

The volume is based on more than 140 official documents authored by General Secretary Xi Jinping between November 2012 and September 2024. These include reports, speeches, talks, addresses, letters, directives, and written comments. The content is organized into ten thematic sections, comprising a total of 292 excerpts. Several of these excerpts are being published for the first time.
