EDITOR'S NOTE

    Achieving modernization has been the dream of the Chinese people since modern times. The history of the Communist Party of China (CPC) in unifying and leading the Chinese people toward national rejuvenation for over a century is synonymous with the continuous exploration of the road to modernization. Based on decades of exploration and practice since the founding of the People's Republic of China in 1949, especially since the launch of reform and opening up in 1978, as well as the new breakthroughs made in theory and practice since the 18th CPC National Congress, we have succeeded in advancing and expanding Chinese modernization.

    Chinese modernization represents a new form of human advancement and ushers in a new prospect for modernization. Evidence proves Chinese modernization works and it is the only correct path leading to a great China and the rejuvenation of our nation. From this day forward, the central task of the CPC will be to lead the Chinese people of all ethnic groups in a concerted effort to realize the Second Centenary Goal of building China into a great modern socialist country in all respects and to advance the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation on all fronts through Chinese modernization.

    Comrade Xi Jinping's expositions on Chinese modernization are high-minded，forward-looking, insightful, and rich in content. With a deeper understanding of the connotation and essence of Chinese modernization，a summary of its distinctive Chinese features, essential requirements, and underlying principles, and the establishment of its theoretical framework, the concept of Chinese modernization has become better articulated, sounder，and more comprehensible and accessible. These theoretical refinements are of great significance for our cause of building a great country and advancing national rejuvenation on all fronts through Chinese modernization on the new journey in the new era. The purpose of this book is to help officials and the general public study, understand, and grasp Xi’s major statements on Chinese modernization.

    Excerpted from more than 220 important documents including reports，speeches, remarks, notes, congratulatory messages, replies, and directives made by Xi from November 15, 2012 to October 18, 2023, this book brings together 522 passages organized under seven topics. Some of these statements are being published for the first time.
